In the wake of the #MeToo movement and the US electing its first female Vice President, the time of the empowered female is very much upon us. Alt-pop rocker D.K. Lyons celebrates the strong, self-confident and authentic female figure in his new single “Katie in the Moment,” which Vents Magazine is pleased to premiere today. The track precedes the release of Lyons’ new EP, Vandalism, due out October 29th.

Raised by three positive female role models (after losing his father in a plane crash), D.K. Lyons grew up in awe of women. In his new single, “Katie in the Moment,” the artist sings about a bartender who notices a female customer, “Katie,” who exudes the utmost self-confidence. The female character gives a stark contrast to the boys who fawn over her and inspires the insecure bartender to take ownership of his own life.

Lyons describes “Katie in the Moment” as “a track that’s meant to inspire authenticity, empowerment, and dancing.”

Lyons’ third release, his Vandalism EP grapples with the theme of emotional vandalism. While physical vandalism can leave buildings marred and permanently scarred, it can also result in beautiful artistic expression and move us emotionally. On his new EP, Lyons sings about various internal acts of vandalism, including relationships, acts of aggression, single pivotal moments in time, and memories of the past — some of which can be painful (“Poster Child,” “Sleeping You Off,” “Love” to “Friends”) and some can be beautiful and inspiring (Katie in the Moment, Summer Lullabies, The Thief).

Vandalism follows the artist’s successful debut LP release in 2020, which attracted well over 20K streams on Spotify and 50K views on YouTube.

Stay tuned for the new D.K. Lyons album, Vandalism, out on October 29th.
